Step 1:
Boil a large pot of salted water. Cook the trottole pasta according to the package instructions until al dente, about 9-11 minutes.
Step 2:
While the pasta is cooking, heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the pesto sauce and heavy cream, stirring occasionally until the sauce is warm and slightly thickened, about 3-4 minutes.
Step 3:
Drain the cooked pasta, reserving a cup of pasta water. Add the pasta to the skillet with the sauce, stirring to coat evenly. If needed, add some reserved pasta water to achieve the desired sauce consistency.
Step 4:
Season with salt to taste. Serve hot, garnished with Parmesan or fresh basil if desired.
